7 Most hacked software of 2009


Forbes compiled a list of the seven Most-Hacked software titles for 2009.  They took a survey of security professionals from various companies including Verisign, TippingPoint, iDefense and Qualys.  Based on this survey, Forbes found that the following were the most hacked software titles from 2009.

  • Adobe Reader
  • Internet Explorer
  • Mozilla Firefox
  • Adobe Flash
  • Apple Quicktime
  • Microsoft Office
  • Microsoft Windows

It is interesting to see that Adobe Reader has topped the list this year.  The number of bugs found this year has tripled from 2008, which doubled the number in 2007.

The major takeaway from this article is to keep up to date on your software.  The latest versions of all these software titles automatically notify the user when updates are available.  It is important to recognize when it is time to update, and update immediately when you are notified.
